We encourage internships that involve significant work with an environmental or sustainability focus. This helps you see the kind of careers available to you and identify where you may need to strengthen your skills.

Internship Steps for Current Students

To get an idea of what kind of internship you could do:

  • Read student internship profiles on this website
  • Watch email listservs and organizations' websites for internship openings
  • Set up a meeting with an organization representative and set up a meeting (in person or over the phone)
    • Provide copies of your updated resume
    • Use personal documents from ENVS 195A if you enrolled your freshman year

After you have secured your internship:

  • Download and submit the forms below (Application and Assumption of Risk)
  • Review the Internship Syllabus (below)
  • Contact our professional academic advisor to enroll in ENVS 393/493 for credit (paid and unpaid internships accepted)

You will prepare a presentation on your internship experience, along with other interns.

  • Presentations will be scheduled during fall semester and will be open to all students in the Environmental Science and the Sustainable Plant Systems majors
  • Invite your internship supervisor if possible
  • You will be required to create a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation followed by five minutes for questions and discussion
    • Summarize your internship experience
    • Include tangible examples of contributions you made to the organization:
      • Reports
      • Maps
      • Graphs
      • Organizational materials
    • Submit the presentation one week in advance
  • Be featured on our website!

  • Work on environmental literacy with ASUA Students for Sustainability
  • Teach women introductory outdoor skills through through Campus Recreation: Women's Initiative for Leadership in the Outdoors

  • Lead volunteer groups at Saguaro National Park
